This website allows you to obtain component values or time periods for circuits using the 555 timer IC.

There is also a selection of projects that can be built with a description of how they work.

The 555 timer IC comes in an 8 pin package, the voltage range for the IC is 4.5 V to 15 V.

The output will sink or source up to 200 mA.

Operation

Astable Operation

The output at pin 3 produces a square wave output, oscillating at a frequency determined by 2 resistors and a capacitor.

Monostable Operation

The output at pin 3 produces a pulse every time pin 2 is grounded, the duration of the pulse is determined by a resistor and a capacitor.

The output at pin 3 goes high after a set delay, the duration of the delay is determined by a resistor and a capacitor.
